The best thing about the Network Marketing Industry is also the worst thing about the Network Marketing Industry.

Anyone can get involved - no interviews, no screenings, no background checks. The potential result is many participants of low quality. And because you are dealing with a vast group of private home based businesses, it is impossible to police and enforce the rules of the industry completely.

 

In September of 2026, a settlement between the FTC ( Federal Trade Commission ) and Amway along with specific groups of Affiliated Business Owners occurred for $225 Million Dollars in regards to allegations including, but not limited to Misleading Income Claims, Pressure To Purchase Products, Falsifying Customer Sales, and Pressure To Use / Invest In Training Systems.

Long Story Short - there are people in my industry who sell the same products I do, but are not following the rules.

These and other practices that go against the Amway Business Model are completely unacceptable. I am actually pleased that the FTC has taken action to expose and shine a light on these behaviors. Sometimes you need to do cleanup or take action to remove the " bad apples " and those who ruin opportunities for those who want to follow the rules.

I would like to emphasize and communicate that each individual participant is an Independent Business Owner ( IBO ) and is able to run their business the way they want to within the established rules and regulations. While Training Systems and Training Organizations are available, participation is always optional and not required by Amway.

 

I am committed to training and coaching current and future business partners in how to build a business with a foundation of honesty and integrity.

 

This commitment extends to the action of ME calling out individuals and groups in my own downline if there is discovery of behavior and practices that clearly go against the rules that Amway and this Industry has published. If the actions and behaviors are not corrected, then I will not hesitate to report them MYSELF even if doing so results in individual or several business licenses being revoked and ME experiencing a lower income with my business. My reputation personally and by association is worth much more to me than any income or bonuses offered by the Amway Business Model.

It's important to put things in perspective that it is common in the world of business for lawsuits, settlements, and legal matters to occur. Just because this happens with any business does not mean the whole business, all the people in it, or the whole industry is bad.

I would imagine that either you or someone you know does business with Amazon, Walmart, or McDonald's. Those companies have had plenty of lawsuits over the years. And while the average person can't go out and buy a McDonald's or own a company like Amazon, just about anyone can purchase stock ( a form of ownership ) with those companies and many others that have a few or a lot of bad people.

 

Depending on who you talk to you may find that the Network Marketing Industry has many stereotypes and a stigma. I reconcile it in a way that acknowledges this, but also maintains my Personal Brand with this simple statement :

Network Marketing is a lot like Religion or Politics. We all know that everyone in those spaces are not bad, but at the same time it's really not difficult to find people who are bad.

In the case of this Industry the reason for the reality circles back to the low barrier of entry.

My hope is that individuals who are truly looking to get more control of time and money are able to do research that properly separates the model itself from people who may participate in the model.
